Why? Simple: The Motion Picture Association of America believes that it owns the 16 digit hexadecimal number 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0. This number is very precious to them, as it's the key that's needed to decode the HD-DVD's that have started to be released. A wee bit of tech know-how and that key can allow someone to copy as many of those DVDs as they like, and re-distribute.
Now, I'm not a big fan of the DMCA, and I'm not an advocate of piracy, but I'm deeply opposed to the abuses of copyright that the music and movie companies have been lobbying through Congress the past couple decades. The MPAA is even willing to say "We own this number". Well Disney, I own this one.
My dad showed Me this video last night after dinner. It's amazing how many people don't get the point in the end, after seeing so much discussion and commentary online about it.
The following music video is from Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip.
