Live from Donald Wilson Dot.... Org?
The DonaldWilson.Org domain became available (it wasn't when I first was registering a domain for Myself) so I registered it. The biggest reason has nothing to do with this blog, but with really STUPID web design on the part of others. Yes... it's soapbox time...
You see, the .info top level domain (TLD) was released in 2001. This tld has been the most popular of the ones released at that time, which include .coop, .museum, .biz and others. In that time, over 3 million .info domains have been registered, with over 1.6 million in active use. But, even though that's the case, there are still TONS of websites that, when filling in a form for site registration or some such process, that reject .info e-mail addresses as invalid. These sites always allow .com, .net, .org and .edu addresses, but not my .info address. I've even found through a bit of research that they usually even allow for addresses at .co.uk or other addresses that are part of the IANA Country Code list, but not my 6 year old .info domain.
The latest website I've had this problem with, was SciFi.Com, home of the SciFi Channel, when I tried to sign up for an account today. I went through the whole process, only to havve it spit up an error, complaining about my email address. That finally did it... I went looking for another donaldwilson.something that I could use for these really dumb websites with web administrators who should be dragged into the street and have a truckload of old CRT's dropped on them from a B-24 bomber.
So, whether it's .org or .info, you'll see this site now.

I've also wondered if other webmasters have got so fed up with spam sites using .info that they screen them out. Almost all the spam comments I've had at Philocrites in the last year are from .info domains; in frustration, I've wanted to rename it "dot-spam."
